Medicare Annual Election period is from October 15th through December 7th, where you can sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan, drop your Medicare Advantage plan and switch to Medicare Parts A or B, Change from one Medicare Part D plan to another or drop your Part D plan altogether. It’s time to ask yourself if your plan has all the coverage you need. Does it cover your prescriptions? Do you enjoy your doctor? Are there any additional benefits you feel like you’re missing out on? Has your budget changed?

If you miss this enrollment period, you are not completely stuck with your current plan.

Do you quality for a Special Enrollment Period? (SEP)

You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, and have time to find a new Medicare Part B plan, if you are leaving job-based insurance, you discover a 5-star plan available to you, you moved out of your current plan’s service area, you moved into a long-term care facility, you just got out of jail or your plan is ending its contract with Medicare

You can change to a new Medicare Advantage Plan or enroll in Medicare Part B

If you already have a Medicare Advantage plan and you’d like to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare, you may do so between January 1 and March 31. During this time you could also enroll in a Medicare Part B plan. Be sure and discuss this with a trusted agent. If you enroll during this period your coverage may not start until July 1 and you may have to pay a penalty.
