Surprising benefits to a Medicare advantage plan

Medicare Advantage

The differences between Original Medicare, Medigap and Medicare Advantage can be overwhelming! There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to Medicare, or health care in general. It’s important to sit down with an expert and review your budget and your needs carefully.

If you’re considering a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C), you may want to ask about these benefits:

All coverage in one easy to manage plan

The best part about a Medicare Advantage Plan is having all your services covered under one plan. Medicare Advantage plans cover everything that Original Medicare covers as well as dental, hearing, vision and more. If you need all these services covered, it may be easier for you to have them all covered under one easy-to-understand plan.

Limits on out of pocket

The cost for your Medicare Advantage plan may be the most confusing thing about it. These plans are private products and premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket costs can vary greatly. However, each plan is required by Medicare to stick to an annual maximum out of pocket cost. In 2021 the Maximum out-of-pocket limit is set to $7,550.

Deductibles, copayments and coinsurance costs all count toward the out-of-pocket maximum but your monthly premium costs do not.

Fitness programs, transportation, meal services, prescriptions, dental, vision, hearing

Original Medicare plans do not cover services like dental, vision and hearing. You would need to purchase those plans separately. With a Medicare Advantage plans these services are often packaged in. Some plans also offer prescription or Medicare Part D.

For an additional cost, some Medicare Advantage providers may also offer benefits like fitness memberships, transportation to medical appointments and meal services to encourage members to stay healthy.

Even if these benefits sound great from the outside, it’s important to sit with a knowledgeable expert to determine if they are right for you. Prices for certain services in a Medicare Advantage plan may go up if you get sick. An original Medicare with a Medigap plan may be a better fit for your budget.
