Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Ends March 31

Medicare, Medicare Advantage

While Annual Open Enrollment ended Dec. 7 if you have a Medicare Advantage plan you still have options to change up your Medicare plan. Here’s everything you can do during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period January 1- March 31.

Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan

There are many different Medicare Advantage plans available. Some may cover prescription drug costs and some may have additional benefits like dental and hearing. If you’re unhappy with the benefits offered in your current Medicare Advantage plan, you still have time to make changes.

Go back to Original Medicare

If you’re unhappy with your Medicare Advantage plan or feel like you could pay less for coverage through Original Medicare, you can switch back to Original Medicare during this time. Keep in mind, Original Medicare include parts A and B. You may also join a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan but you may be too late to buy a Medigap policy.

If you already have Original Medicare, this enrollment period does not apply to you.

Prepare for possible change

If the Medicare Advantage plan you had in 2021 decided not to participate in Medicare in 2022 you also have time to make changes until the end of February. In this case you would be able to purchase certain Medigap policies to make up for lost coverage.

During this open enrollment period you should take time to review your Medicare Advantage plan. Ask yourself:

  • Are my doctors in network?
  • Are my prescription drugs included?
  • Am I comfortable with my premium and deductible costs?
  • Do I have a plan for dental, hearing and vision coverage?
  • Does my plan offer any additional benefits like gym membership, or other wellness services? Would I like it to?

If you’re unsure of any of these questions it’s a good time to sit down with an authorized broker and explore your options.

If you make changes during this time period your new coverage will start the first day of the month after the new plan receives your request for coverage.
