Commonly Asked Questions for Open Enrollment Period

Open Enrollment for Medicare, Open Enrollment Medicare

A few weeks into January, we’ve finally retrained ourselves to write “2024” and hopefully made some headway on our resolutions. Health-related goals are some of the new year’s most popular, so why not use these early months to get your Medicare Advantage Plan in shape, too? The Open Enrollment Period (OEP) began January 1 and ends March 31. Below are some commonly asked questions about OEP:

Do I Qualify for Open Enrollment?

If you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can make a one-time change your existing plan or enroll in a new plan between January 1 and March 31, 2024. You can also return to Original Medicare and join a separate Medicare drug plan.

What is the Benefit of Exploring Open Enrollment?

If your current Medicare Advantage Plan’s offerings, premiums, out-of-pocket costs, drug coverage and additional benefits fit your needs, no need to participate in OEP. Not 100 percent satisfied? Contact your Medicare insurance broker to compare offerings and costs for a different Medicare Advantage plan in 2024. Any changes you make to your Medicare Advantage Plan during OEP are one-time changes that become effective the first of the next month and stay in place throughout 2024.

Will Changing Plans Affect the Doctors I See?

At the start of each calendar year, many doctors and hospitals will see new insurance contracts begin and previous contracts expire. This means it’s more important than ever to check if the providers and facilities you prefer are still part of your plan. If you need assistance with finding out where your favorite healthcare provider moved to and whether they accept your insurance, ask your Medicare agent for help.
